Hi! My grandfather gave my dad and I a Montgomery Ward Hercules 20. The only problem is that it is in very bad condition. I was hoping somebody on here would be able to help me on information or know of a good website that will help me with it. Thanks for any information.

Welcome to Shotgunworld!

My grandpa gave me an old single shot .22 called a Stevens Maynard Junior. It's in bad shape, and it will stay that way, too. Not that I don't treasure it, but it would cost more than a really nice used gun in great condition to try to restore it.

Montgomery Wards never made a gun. They sold guns, from a lot of different makers. Your "Hercules" is the Wards version of some gun with a famous name.

If you'd tell us if it's a pump, single shot, or double barreled side by side, it would help. Also, if you tell us exactly all the words stamped on the barrel, it might help.

Could you give us a little more info, please?

I know the old Iver Johnson Company made a Hercules model which was a higher grade than their more common Champion model. It could possibly be made by Iver Johnson.

The Iver Johnson Hercules was a SxS double barreled Shotgun. I J did make guns or Montgomery Ward, but not marked Hercules.. Bushrod

Does it have a model number on it? The Bluebook of Gun Values has an index called a store brand cross over list. It lists the names and model numbers of the brand name under which they were sold and the name of the original manufacturer and their corresponding model numbers. Most Montgomery Ward House brands were marketed as Western Field guns.

Both Iver Johnson and J. Stevens put the name "Hercules" on their shotguns. However, the Montgomery Ward Hercules guns were all made by Iver Johnson. Source: Codes & Markings.

A5.. I must disagree with you, I have now and have had SxS guns marked guns marked Wards Hercules 5100 and 5000, these were Stevens/Savage guns. The gun in question is a single barrel, I don't think Iver Johnson ever marked single barrel guns with the Hercules Mark.. I Am not familiar with your reference "Codes And Markings". Pull up Gunbroker # 96329734, it a Wards Hercules and plainlly a Stevens..> Bushrod
