Hello Folks,

I am trying to fix and restore my Grandfather's JC Higgins Model 20 12g pump.

There is one part that's broken, but I'm not sure what it's called. It's the tube that fits over the feeder tube, and has a hooked arm that inserts in the breach area that cycles the action. This piece was silver soldered back in place a few times by either my Grandfather, or a gunsmith in western Nebraska.

I've looked around for a replacement part, but haven't found one yet. One was located, but didn't fit, even though it was supposedly for the Model 20. From what I understand, this model was made by several manufacturers, and have slight differences.

If it helps, this gun does not have a barrel choke.

Thanks for any help you can give, and if you happen to have a source for parts, or one of these for sales as a parts gun, please let me know.

Bill in North Carolina

The model details are stamped as:

J.C. Higgins Model 20 Sears.Roebuck and Co. 583.56 Proof Tested 12ga 2 3/4 Chamber

Try: http://www.gun-parts.com. This is Bob's Gun Parts and the web site shows as being in stock. If you have questions you can e-mail him--a little slow to answer, but he is a busy man. Goatwhiskers the Elder

By the way the Model 20 is the same as the High Standard M200.

The J C Higgins Model 20 is quite similar to a Winchester Model 12......the part you describe is usually called the action slide sleeve / bar assembly. A hollow metal tube that slides over the magazine tube and is covered by a fitted wooden forend. The rear extension of the action slide sleeve is the action bar, its rearward most part has a cam to manipulate the breech bolt. The end of the action bar also interacts with the disconnector.

I looked at the site posted above, but did not see this part available....could have missed it though.

In a worst case scenario keep your eye on gunbroker.com. Those model 20's show up fairly often. Some are in nasty shape. You might get one cheap as a parts gun.

Thank you for the information. I've been watching gunbroker. A few are there now, but the budget's got me stuck at around $100 max right now for a parts gun.

At one point I had it apart for a gunsmith to look it over. We ordered the part from Numrich's that was supposed to fit, but no luck. Seems there may be slight differences?

I'll keep looking. I've never shot this gun, but it seems well made and in very good shape, other than the broken part. I did do some work on the furniture, so if nothing else, it will look nice. It's been years since I shot skeet/trap, and would love to someday be able to shoot Grandpa's gun.

Take care.
