I'm a bit puzzled and hoped someone could shed some light...
I've a inherited A500....

A dealer told me it was worth $200.00 because it's cheap?

I just saw the same one advertised online for $1,200.00+

Any idea what he real deal is?

An A-500 will never sell for $1200.00 I wouldn't call them a bad gun. But not a gun worthy of the Browning name. I have one of the first. The hardest kicking gun I have ever shot.

Is the A500 and the A5 the same gun? If so, I inherited one as well...12gauge...books for about $7-800 from what I've found

The A5 is the Auto-5. It's long recoil operated. This model has been around for about 100 years. The A500 is short recoil operated. Then there is the A 500G which is gas operated. Neither of the 500 models were long lived.

I bought an A-500G new for around $500.00. I personally like the gun, never had much trouble with it. Not sure what blue book is on it, but $200.00 seems low, but would depend on condition. $1,200.00 is ridiculous. From what I have read, there were more problems with the recoil models, then the gas operated ones.

The recoil models just would not stand up to heavy lead magnums. If only shooting steel it may last longer but the heavy shells would beat the gun to death.

Quest46,

I just noticed that you posted this as a “Belgium A500”. My gun was manufactured in Belgium but assembled in Portugal. Does yours say something different?

I finally sold mine (R500)for $275 this fall! One of the few guns I have lost money on. I had bought it new in 1989! I shot some ducks & geese with it. It would jam if there wasn't 2 shells in the magazine! I fixed that problem! A dealer won't even take it in on consignment! I had traded it once with my brother but I got it back after 2 years! I have seen them for sale for over $400, if they got sold or not? I had shot A5s for years, why I ever bought that 500? I still have 2 A5s.
