Need some help with an old shotgun I inherited. It has two larger barrels on top, one smaller on the bottom. Has engravings all over it. including "Franz Kettner" printed on the length of one barrel, and "Krupp Stahl" across each of the two barrels.

Pics at the following links

Any idea of the year? Value? What kind and size ammo it uses? How it works with the selector switch. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!
Jim

If you remove the forend of your Kettner drilling (3-bbl gun), and unhinge/dismount the barrels from the action - the proofmarks stamped into the metal should tell the tale.

The smoothbore/shotgun barrels will have the gauge marked thereon, likewise the lower rifl bbl.

There should also be a date code, or at least it may be generally dated by which era the other proofmarks it carries were used.

There were two Kettner gunmaking firms prior to WWII, Franz Kettner and Edward Kettner. I do not know if they were related. Edward Kettner based in Koln purchased one or more gunmakers in Suhl prior to WWII and became a major sporting goods dealer in Germany with multiple locations and a rival of Waffen Franconia.

You may want to post this enquiry on SGW's German Gun forum. Perhaps Sauerfan and others can provide more information.
