Can someone please tell me what the value might be on this shotgun. It is in very good condition. Serial number 236384 on both stock part and barrel. There is also a number 4 stamped above the serial number on the barrel. It has been in my family ever since I can remember. Let me know if you need any other information. Thank You in advance for your help.

All those names are "Trade Brand Name" shotguns made by either Crescent Fire Arms Company of Norwich,CT (1892 to 1930) or the Hunter Arms Company of Fulton,NY (1890 to 1945) for and were sold at wholesale by the Shapleigh hardware Company of St. Louis,MO a wholesale sporting goods dealer. The gun appears to have been made by Crescent and if it was, the serial number dates it to being made in 1912. I have to offer my standard caution at this point. These old guns were designed and made using the technology and metallurgy of the time when they were made and for the ammunition in use back then. While I doubt the gun has damascus barrels, the barrels will be chambered for 2 1/2 inch shotgun shells loaded with either black powder or early low pressure smokeless powder and lead shot. It was not designed for modern 3 inch or magnum shells loaded with high pressure smokeless powder or steel shot. While the gun may still be fired if in good mechanical condition and with appropriate ammunition, I have to recommend that you take it to a good competent gunsmith for an examination before trying to shoot it. Value? The value will depend on the guns condition, the amount of original finish remaining on the metal and wood as well as the mechanical condition. A prime condition condition example (rare) that appears to have come out of the factory yesterday afternoon might fetch as much as $200 at auction while a rusty metal, rotten or broken wood and missing parts piece of junk fit only for parts salvage or as a tent pole might bring as little as $50. Most I have seen sold on the various gun auction sites have sold for between $100 to $175.

The Hunter Arms Fulton tradename gun for Shapleigh was "Enders Royal", and possibly "Enders Oak Leaf".
