First of all, this is a great forum. I'm glad I stumbled across it today!
I'm trying to assess the value of three different shotguns, but thought I would start with the one I know the most about, while I continue to research the others...
This gun is a multiple-shot, single-barrel, 16 gauge, Remington Sportsman 48. It's in the best shape of the three guns, with most of the original finish intact, only minor pitting on the metal parts, and what I would call normal use wear on the wood parts. It's serial number is 3518469 in case that is of any help.
Other marks include "Remington Arms Co. Inc. Ilion NY Made in USA" and "Patent No. 2,278,689 Others Pending" on two lines on the barrel. "Remington (r) Sportsman 48" on the mid-gun metal section (ie, the "chamber?"). It also has nice cross-hatching carved into the wood on the forearm and stock...
