As I was cleaning out my grandfathers old house I happened to stumble upon an old browning shotgun. On the barrell it says its a 12 gauge, but it sure doesn't look it, looks more like a 16. I have snapped some pictures of it. Beware the files are kind of big. I was just wanting to know if someone might know what model it is and maybe how much it is worth.

Spell out all of the writing on the barrels.

Does it say: BROWNING AUTOMATIC ARMS CO. OGDEN UTAH-U.S.A.?

Give us all of the markings.

Nice looking 1958 A-5 (auto-5) 12 ga standard weight. About $300 or so on the open market these days.

OK Marland, how did you come up with that?

Looking at the website: "From 1958 serial numbers were preceded by the date of manufacture. 8M=standard weight for 1958. 8G=light weight for 1958.
Example: 8M1000 = A 1958 Auto-5 standard weight shotgun with serial number 1000"

I'm just trying to pull back the curtain a little bit and learn something here.

If I tell you , you have to promise not to tell anyone alright?

Obviously an A-5 , not a contract gun because it has John Brownings picture on it, the safety wasn't in the front of the triggerguard so it wasn't a first generation gun, the M standing alone in the serial number was only used for 3 years, 57 58 and 59. You then take the serial number and compare it to the bluebooks serialization page, and it will give the configuration, guage and year....

Elementary..... ;)
