3. I do not like the racket of a semi auto 2. I like the weight and swing dynamics of a 9 lb O/U 1. 1st Law of Chaos Theory--a jammomatic will always jam at the worst time.Always. |

You knew this was coming.I shoot my 391 because: (1) Obvious: it kicks less (2) Also Obvious: it cost less (3) If something breaks 99% of the time I can fix it myself with parts that are cheap; and I can generally fix it right in the field without holding up the squad. O/U: I send it to the manufacture and hope I see it again in my lifetime. Or to a gunsmith and pay for his kid's college education. (4) Longer sighting plane, whatever that means. (5) Fewer chokes to buy; fewer chokes to change (6) Lots of aftermarket stuff to change the weight, balance, fit, etc. Extra trigger, $150, extra stock, about the same. (7) Have the trigger converted to release (which I did) about $100; not $700 to $1,000 like an O/U. (8) I have a 54 inch gun case. An O/U would be too short. (9) Don't need to pick the empties out of the barrel and throw them on the ground. They do that by themselves. (10) And finally, I just shoot it better. +1 Except no release, and I have a 32'' barrel so it doesn't quite fit in a 54 inch case.... Also, I have had high end O/Us and I was always anxious that it would get knocked over in the rack or hit by a target. I felt like I had to clean it every time I touch it....etc. I have 2 390s and have less than $1100 in the pair. If a broken target hits one of them....I call it a "war scar" and move on. I'm curious about this whole Idea of being able to change 2 chokes in O/Us as being a positive thing.....I'm not trying to start a new topic or bring up an old topic, but I struggle to believe that this is much of an advantage... many of the top dogs don't have chokes in their gun to change.... Cherry, Digweed, Faulds..... christyouthguy- If I could shoot like those guys, I wouldn't change chokes either...however, I can't, so I do from time to time open the chokes up on close birds or rabbits. Just sayin'... Ron What you are saying is logical...but I can't help but wonder if you gain or lose confidence when you don't think you can hit a target (consistently) without changing your choke??? sera wrote: 3. I actually agree with you Law of Chaos Theory to an extent, however i can't say that my gun jamming has ever cost me a target..... I can however say that it has gained me targets... Miss the first target on a true pair, gun jammed.... Get to reshoot pair and break both.... To the original poster.... I think this conversation is primarily about "feel"... what feels good between your hands and allows you to feel the most comfortable while breaking targets.... |

I gain confidence that I have the most optimal pattern for the presentation regardless if I could hit it consistently or not. |

Anthony told me he shoots a #15 Pure Gold choke (tight light modified) almost all the time so I went out and bought one. I did not get the results I hoped for. Apparently there's more to it than that. |

I like my autoloader because: 1) I've got tons of time to clean all the inner workings, parts & pieces of the gun every time I shoot it so that it will actually work on the next outing. 2) I love to get out my scrub brushes and soap to remove the black crud under my fingernails after going through the steps above. It leaves my hands so soft and pretty. 3) There is something special about hearing that "click" without a "bang" every time it malfunctions. This is especially conducive to breaking the bird on the re-shoot. 4) The trappers (who we always complain about in other threads) deserve to pick up my spent shells spewed all over the general area of the stations I visit, especially when the grass is high. This gives me that feeling of superiority towards the little people who are there to make my life better. 5) I have tons of money to spend on overpriced spare parts, O-rings, cans of Gun Scrubber, etc. This also helps prop up the lagging economy in today's business environment. 6) I love to shoot my back-up gun when my auto is in the shop for repairs that are beyond my comprehension, not to mention my ability to fix it. It really keeps me on my game by shooting a different gun. 7) I love the simplicity of choosing only one choke, especially on those close/far report pairs. 8] I'm building a collection of guns that look good, but no longer work. I've got two and working on a third. They give others the impression that you have more money than you know what to do with when they see your gun safe. That is just a start...I'd list more, but I need to get back to cleaning my auto. One problem is that I just can't get the retaining nut off of the fore end!!! Any tips for this? I.S. |

I know you guys know that Pure Gold and Compu-n-Chokes throw tighter patterns than most other chokes, So my #15 choke which should be light modified is a "tight" light modified, and you're right, it's probably really is a modified. |

I shoot my autoloader better than the O/U. It's softer-shooting. |

I began shooting sporting clays this past July with my field gun, a Beretta 391 Urika 2 synthetic. I had always wanted an O/U so I went and tried out a Beretta 686 White Onyx sporting (30") which is what i shoot now. I really love the simplicity of the 686 and the 30" barrels swing very nicely for me and I'm 6'1". I use Carlson's IC/LM extended chokes for everything. I'm not a choke changer. I also do not notice recoil I shoot 1oz. 3dr. 71/2 Estates and also 1 1/8oz. 3dr. Gun club's. With my shooting vest on I don't even notice the gun go off. |

391 Auto cause I shoot it better than my 682E. Less recoil makes a positive difference in my scores. No jamming issues with half-decent ammo. I clean it about every 1,200 shots whether it needs it or not. I bought it used at a very good price. Did I mention it kicks a lot less than my O/U? |

For sporting I shoot the 20ga Cynergy O/U more these days. I reload so not chasing the hulls holding everyone up is a plus. It is a true sporting gun and not just a field gun. Having two chokes makes little difference to me, but it couldn't hurt. I like the 32" barrels and the handling of it. I feel more accepted in the community by using it. I shoot my very best using it the easiest. It is harder for me to achive the same level with my other guns. |

houmike wrote: I'm not having near the troubles with my 391 that everybody thinks that I should have...... Neither am I. In fact, it's pretty much trouble free if I keep it half a$$ clean. That said, I just ran across a Guerini that keeps saying "take me, take me"........ KK |

Anything I say or do seems to some how be taken as a threat. Even if I say nothing it is somehow wrong. Many people seem to literally fear me. I've been beat up just sitting down minding my own business, family, friends, girlfriends have all commented on it taking a step back, lost jobs over it, it is a real problem. Anyway the gun is unique enough and people have had interest in it forcing them to actually speak to me and I have had actual relations with some people that for no other reasons they liked the gun. So it has been an ice breaker sort of speak. It has been nice to feel like I'm normal for once even if it doesn't last. |
