I was just given my Great Grandfather's 12 gage side-by-side shotgun. Can anyone tell me what model it is and/or when it was manufactured? It is serial #329919. I've been told that he purchased it used in 1921. The barrel has been blued so it's difficult to read some of the markings other than it's an Ithaca.

And do not fire off the shelf modern ammo; too potent for that gun. Only one OK is the Winchester AA extra lite trap load. Low pressure shells and good performing can be bought from http://www.rstshells.com or http://www.polywad.com. for about $10 a box.

Have a knowledgeable person check the gun out to see if it's in serviceable condition.

It was made in 1920

Your Ithaca double is a Flues Model, and came off the production line in 1920.

Flues Models were made in several different grades of ascending embellishment (engraving, etc) and wood quality, with the lowest, Field Grade the most common.

Pics of the action might help further define it's grade.

That's the spirit; don't ever sell that gun!

Here's my father's old 1930s Western Field (Stevens) SXS 16 that's still knocking down birds by his great grandsons.
