Hello,
I'd like to collect some opinions from people with first hand experience with Charles Daly brand guns.

A friend of mine bought a 45 made by them and I'd like to know how these guns perform. thanks-

I have never owned one but a good friend of mine has one. He's had nothing but trouble with his. As we speak he is having problems with the gun double-firing. In other words, when he pulls the trigger once, it shoots twice! Also, it won't eject low brass shells, regardless of the brand. His is a 20 gauge.

Personally I have decided to stay away from that brand. Others here have had good luck, so it's a crap shoot really. One brand in the same price range I have heard good things about is the CZ (712 or 720). There are also mixed reviews on the Stoeger 2000 and the Verona 405, which are also in thesame price range. The best reviews I have read though have been on the CZ712 (or 720).

I've got an older Miroku 12 ga. o/u and it's great. Made in the same factory as the Browning o/u.
I've got other new Brownings as well as older Win 101, I'd not feel slighted by picking the CD to use over any of the others.

I know nothing about their handguns. Sorry.

I've heard the O/U were good pieces and the handguns look fairly good, stay plumb away from the autoloaders. I know using the word junk normally brings out a torrent of protests but I've seen 28 out of 30 guns go south in a hunter safety program we had. Really didn't matter what shells were used just lockup and quit working, these were also worked on by trained armors so you would have to say that's a pretty bad average. The guns were purchased over a 2 year period so it wasn't a single production run, replaced them with 1100 Remingtons.

Sorry but I thought Miroku and CD were separate entities?

Mirouku made O/U's that were imported under the Charles Daly name at one time. That is no longer true. Charles Daly imports O/U's made in Spain, I think. I don't have a clue where the autoloader shotgun is made. Or the pistols. But Charles Daly is just a name used by the current importer (Outdoor Sports, I think) for what they import.

It depends on who made the gun retailed by Daly - The Charles Daly name goes back to the 19th Century - they never made nuthin. They did and perhaps still do market guns from the finest (Prussian Linders) to fair (Spanish guns). If you see BC Miroku on the Daly or any other gun - it is a fine firearm.

I bought one for a turkey gun( 3 1/2 pump). I had nothing but trouble, it would not eject 3 1/2 shells. So I thought I would shot skeet with it to break it in, that did not work either it would jam the 2 3/4 shells everytime I would pump the gun. So I had a gun that only would shoot 3" shells. I traded it for a Moss 835 and love the gun, I killed plenty of turkeys with it and a few deer. But my dad killed a nice tom last season with it, but he still has to use 3" shells. I will not even try a 45 made by them I am going with the rock island.

The name Charles Daly on a gun means very little. The man Charles Daly started importing guns from Europe in 1865. Some of the companies that made guns for CD were the best that Europe had to offer. Guns made by Sauer and Linder with the CD name on them command as much as $20,000. CD sold double rifles and drillings that command as much as $12,000 +.

Later, until 1976, CD guns made by Miroku in Kochi,Japan were of exellent quality. Miroku/CD made O/U,SxS and single barrel trap guns.

As many as a dozen companies, banks. and individuals have owned old Charles Daly's name over the last 140 years. The name has been on guns that are considered the finest made and on guns that are of very poor quality. CD guns have been made in Prussia,Russia,Spain,Belgium,Brazil,Germany,Elgland,Japan and Turkey.

The CD name has been found on handguns, shotguns, rifles and combination guns.

Your question was what do I think of CD guns. Well, that is pretty hard to answer! About all I can say is that there sure is alot of them!

I have a CD Field Tactical pump, 3 inch chamber, 18 1/2" barrel. So far mine has been a pretty good gun, the only problem I've had with it is if you don't cycle the action hard enough, the shell won't fully eject, but that's an operator error. The pumps are made in Turkey, don't know about the others.

I think I would stay away from the auto's though.

First of all I would like to point out to all of those who had GRAET experiance with the Japanese made CD's, this is no longer the case, the following is from the CD web site, their words:

"Where is my Daly firearm, imported by K.B.I., Inc., manufactured?

Over & Unders:
All of our Daly Over & Unders, including our Combination and Express Rifles, are manufactured by Sabatti of Italy.

Side by Sides:
Daly Field Grade guns are manufactured by Zabala Hermanos of Spain.
Daly Superior and Empire grades are manufactured by Sabatti of Italy.
Daly Diamond and Diamond Regent grades are manufactured by Grulla of Spain.

Semi-autos and Pumps:
All of our Daly semi-auto and pump shotguns are manufactured by Akkar of Turkey

.22 Caliber Rifles:
All of our Daly .22LR, .22WMR, and .17HMR bolt action rimfire rifles are manufactured by Zastava Arms of Serbia & Montenegro.

Now that I got that out of the way, If it is a shotgun you are looking for ... this shooters opinion is negative. :(

I had 1911 Charles Daly 45 very undependable sold it bought a Kimber no problems. Have a buddy that had a Charles Daly auto 12ga. He had to sent it back to factory once it was there for most of duck season. When he got it back last weekend of season he shot it twice and the cocking lever on the bolt sheered off and the third round was stuck in the gun. Afraid to fire it again we very carefully took it apart to get the live round out of it. He sent it back to the factory again purchased a 1187 and sold the Charles Daly for $250 when it came back from the factory. He said he felt guilty getting that much money for it
